Import Tariff Rate Sheet

The weighted duty rates behind our tariff calculators, side by side — with the landed-cost formula importers use to price.

Updated October 9, 2026 · themoneypocket.com

Effective tariff rates by product category

Trade-weighted averages of the additional tariffs imposed since 2025 (Section 232, Section 301 and similar) for the HTS chapters in each category — the same rates our tariff calculators use. They do not include the regular General (MFN) duty, which you add from the HTS schedule. Your actual duty depends on the exact HTS code, country of origin, and any exclusions or trade-agreement treatment.

The landed-cost formula

Landed cost = product cost + freight + insurance + duties + customs fees + brokerage + inland delivery

  • Customs value is usually the transaction value (what you paid the supplier), generally excluding international freight and insurance for US entries.
  • Duty = customs value × (General/MFN rate + every additional tariff that applies). The layers stack.
  • Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) = 0.3464% of customs value, subject to a minimum and maximum per formal entry that CBP resets each fiscal year.
  • Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) = 0.125% of value for ocean shipments.

Worked example

Goods (customs value)$20,000.00
Ocean freight + insurance$1,800.00
Duty at a 25% blended rate$5,000.00
MPF (0.3464%)$69.28
HMF (0.125%)$25.00
Customs broker + bond (illustrative)$250.00
Landed cost$27,144.28 — 35.7% above the goods price

Price it precisely with the landed-cost calculator, look up a code with the HTS tariff lookup, or estimate how much of a tariff reaches shelf prices with the pass-through calculator.

Five ways importers lower their duty bill

  1. Confirm the HTS classification — a more specific code can carry a lower rate.
  2. Check country of origin rules and trade-agreement eligibility (e.g., USMCA) before you switch suppliers.
  3. Look for product exclusions and file before they expire.
  4. Use duty drawback when imported goods or materials are later exported.
  5. Consider a bonded warehouse or foreign-trade zone to defer duty until goods enter commerce.

Rates: trade-weighted chapter blends (data updated June 9, 2026). Fees: 19 CFR 24.23–24.24. Tariff policy changes frequently — verify current rates with CBP or a licensed customs broker before you price.
